The integration of Quantum Electric Arc Furnace in the smart factories of GPH Ispat guarantees the lowest possible energy consumption due to its higher efficient waste heat utilization facility.

The energy for input at EAF is a combination of chemical & electrical energy sources, which reduces the overall energy consumption even further. Because the input relies on chemical sources as well, the process directly saves the environment from pollution.

One of the most special features is the lowest electrical energy consumption, which means that a lower amount of electricity is used, saving the national grid a substantial amount
annually. This has a direct positive impact on the environment as a whole, as lower energy used and lower waste generated directly translates to lower carbon footprint, which itself is a requirement of the SDG goals.

Use of Zero ground water & Zero Discharge System

Every factory – smart or traditional – uses a tremendous amount of water for its manufacturing process. In traditional factories, most of the water is wasted, as traditional factories do not employ any recycling processes in place.

But at GPH Ispat, we have employed a smart water solution for our steel manufacturing plant. We have installed the Closed Loop Zero Discharge Circulation system that reduces the demand of total water quantity, which helps meet the tremendous demand of water at our factories.

In addition, we harvest rainwater by collecting and storing in an artificial lake, which ensures zero usage of groundwater by GPH Ispat smart factories, which is first in the country, and is considered a revolutionary step taken by GPH Ispat for its geographical location.

Clean, Green & Smart factory

Every factory produces pollution, harmful if released into the environment. That’s why GPH Ispat has integrated technology to prevent all forms of emission of harmful pollution.

In the smart factory of GPH Ispat, the fumes of all manufacturing processes from EAF (Shaft/Post combustion chamber and Canopy), ladle furnace roof and from the material handling system are collected and cleaned in a dedicated dedusting system.

The gas from the furnace and the primary fumes generated while charging the shaft are captured and heated up in a post-combustion system to reduce and/or burn volatile organic compounds (VOC) as well as CO. The secondary fumes are captured by a canopy under the melt shop roof.

Dry-Type Electric Arc Furnace Dedusting system is equipped with state-of-the-art post-combustion chamber, water cooled hot gas line, drop out box, quenching tower, pulse jet filter and radial low pressure ID fan station. All these components ensure that the dust particles in the fumes & carbon emission remain 90% below than the maximum values set by the World Bank, which is a remarkable achievement.

So what makes our factories so eco-friendly?

  1. In Quantum – EAF, dust emission is reduced 50% compared to conventional EAF.
  2. 20% reduction in CO2 emissions.
  3. Lowest noise emission.
  4. Reduce canopy installation.
  5. Noise around the furnace is significantly reduced because of constant operation under flat bath and foamy slag conditions.
